PLANNED AND EXCHANGE COMPONENT REPLACEMENT (PCR)
Planned Component Replacement
To minimise machine downtime and maximise availability of the Caterpillar® machines, we believe major/minor component exchange offers the most viable means of ensuring machine productivity.
After monitoring numerous machines over the years, the service life of major/minor components can be “estimated” with a fair degree of accuracy. In conjunction with:-
- planned (machine inspections) or
- problem (excessive fuel or oil consumption, unusual noises, loss of power, excessive smoke etc.)
- repair indicators
The main objective is to repair before failure wherever possible.
Repairing before failure ensures that the repairs are planned, rather than ‘panic’ situations. Significant savings are associated with planned repairs before failure because the machine does not “stop” on the job, full advantage of parts re-usability can be achieved and the resultant damage to other components can be minimized if a major failure is averted.
Component Exchange
For key production machines, we can negotiate to make major/minor exchange components available on-site to facilitate the concept of Planned Component Replacement and repair before failure. When either the planned or problem repair indicators suggest a rebuild is necessary, the service exchange units can be conveniently scheduled for swapping during a non – productive interval. While the machine returns to its job with minimal loss to production and downtime, the component requiring rebuild can be scheduled for servicing through our Specialisation Shop in Adelaide.
